France has a large population of African immigrants – be it from the Maghreb (Tunisia, Morocco and Algeria) or Sub-Saharan Africa. Inevitably, this history of immigration and French colonisation has influenced the food available in cities such as Paris. Osé African Cuisine is one of many restaurants serving African cuisine in Paris and this one happens to be fully halal. The restaurant has around 20 seats on high tables as well as normal tables with table turnaround being pretty quick.

The concept is simple – choose a portion size (medium or large), choose a base, choose a sauce, choose a meat and then add any extras. Our base was white rice, our sauce was the ‘Yassa’ (onions, olives, lemon and mustard), our choice of meat was chicken and as an added extra we ordered grilled plantain. The dish was packed full of flavour and a delightful variety of textures. The Yassa sauce added a sharpness to the dish which was balanced out by the sweetness from the grilled plantain. I also ordered a ginger ale to accompany my meal. The ingredients are locally sourced where possible and I think the medium bowl would be more than enough to fill an individual up.

Osé African Cuisine also have four different types of chilli sauces to add to your meal – the spiciest isn’t for the faint-hearted.

The food at Osé African Cuisine was flavoursome and we would definitely recommend the restaurant. The service was great with the waitress taking time to explain the concept and ingredients (the menu is on the wall and in French). The service was also quick and at €8.90 for a medium bowl, the food makes it onto our list of best cheap eats in Paris.

[…] Osè African Cuisine has a very simple concept: choose a portion size (medium or large), choose a base, choose a sauce, choose a meat and then add any extras. At €8.50 for a medium bowl, the restaurant serves one of the tastiest cheap eats in Paris. Be careful with their range of chilli sauces – they’re hot! Read our review here. […]
