Grounded Coffee Company – Aldgate East

A short walk from Aldgate East station, Grounded Coffee Company is a small, independent cafe serving freshly roasted coffee from Exmouth Coffee Roasters (their own local roastery). The cafe is a rare find in London’s halal dining scene with Grounded serving a full English made with high quality, organic ingredients AND serving good coffee. Grounded offers free wifi making the cafe a great place to work from or to enjoy a leisurely brunch – expect it to be busy on most days. Not only does Grounded provide a great breakfast menu but they also serve lunch and have a counter of baked goods (a perfect accompaniment to the hot drinks).

Chai Nashta – Forest Gate

Translated literally, ‘Chai Nashta’ simply means tea and breakfast though Indians may associate it with a good old Desi fry up. Serving an authentic Gujarati breakfast, Chai Nashta has been warmly received by locals. The menu has what you would expect from a desi breakfast – masala eggs, pooris, chilli fries, fried potatoes, Indian tea/coffee and so on. Order at the counter (cash only) and take a seat – the only downside is that all tables are tables of four which means you may find yourself waiting for a seat for two despite some tables being half empty. It’s also not the easiest place to get to if you don’t live in East London (finding parking in the area is almost impossible) but it’s certainly one to check out if you’re looking for an authentic Gujarati breakfast and masala chai.
Halal status : All meat served is halal (HMC certified) and no alcohol is served.

Ceru – South Kensington

Ceru first got our attention with their pop ups around London. Now at a permanent location in South Kensington, the restaurant uses fresh produce sourced from local markets with flavours inspired by the Levant. The concept is ‘healthy yet indulgent mezze style’ food with sharing is encouraged. The breakfast menu features Levantine classics such as Shakshuka (baked eggs in a spicy tomato sauce), merguez sausages, halloumi and a range of sweet and savoury options.
Breakfast is served from 8am-11.30am on weekdays and 9am-12.30pm on weekends. View their breakfast menu here.

Tartine Artisanal – Tooting

Nestled on the busy Tooting High Street, Tartine Artisanal is a family run cafe with a menu consisting of mostly North African / French / Mediterranean dishes. Traditional dishes are made with a modern twist to suit a Western palate with sauces and spice combinations made using family recipes (read more here). Breakfast is available until 11am on weekdays and 5pm on weekends. You can view their breakfast menu here.
Halal status : All meat served is halal
Al Enam – Willesden

Al Enam may be known to most as a catering company but their restaurant in North Acton serves authentic Iraqi food as well as well known Middle Eastern dishes. The family run business is open every day with breakfast served from 9.30am to 1pm. View their menu here.
Halal status : All meat served is halal
