Halal restaurants in Malta – Halal Gems

Halal restaurants in Malta

February 16, 2018Halal Gems Team

Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. During a visit to Malta, we noticed the influence of the Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John and British who all once ruled the place. Inevitably, the history of the archipelago has influenced the various cuisines available and this can be seen in the offering of the various halal restaurants on the island of Malta.
You can view these restaurants and hundreds more in the Halal Gems Restaurant Finder App. View this guide in our ‘Collections’ section, create a wish list and save the ones you want to visit. Download the app here.

Hugo’s Burger Bar

Hugo’s Burger Bar is a large burger restaurant located in St Julian’s. Although the entire menu isn’t halal, the halal options are clearly labelled on the menu. This includes the Tokyo Burger, Salmon Burger, Chicken burger (the crumbed burger resembles GBK’s panko-crumbed chicken burger) and Chicken Nuggets. They’ve also just introduced two new lamb burgers which are both halal – one is the Middle Eastern style burger while the other is a Greek style lamb burger.
Halal Status: Halal options are clearly marked on the menu. Alcohol is available.

Shakinah
Another St Julian’s gem, Shakinah is located on the seafront and offers Indian cuisine. The restaurant is small and very popular so be sure to book a table in advance. The welcoming atmosphere, ambiance and friendly service creates a relaxed vibe in the restaurant and the food does not disappoint. The menu features a range of traditional dishes – all of which are halal.
Halal Status: All food served is halal. Alcohol is served in the restaurant.

Suruchi
Suruchi is another Indian restaurant in St Julian’s. Perhaps a little more casual than Shakinah, Suruchi also offers a range of traditional dishes. If you’re dining in a group, we’d recommend the sizzling tandoor platter.
Halal Status: All dishes served are halal. Alcohol is available.

Ali Baba started off as a family run restaurant serving Lebanese cuisine. 25 years later, it is still owned by the same family and serves up authentic dishes using local ingredients as well as ingredients imported from Lebanon. Millenium Kebab
If there’s one thing we’ve noticed while travelling around Europe, it’s that finding a Turkish kebab or doner restaurant somewhere in the city isn’t too difficult. In Malta, if you’re looking for a kebab shop that isn’ serving up greasy food, head to Millenium Kebab in Sliema. Not only is all the food served here halal, it is also relatively cheap. Seating is available both inside and outside the restaurant which is great on a warm Summer’s day.
Halal Status: All meat served is halal
The Intercontinental
The Intercontinental Malta St Julian’s (in St George’s Bay) has a variety of indoor and al fresco restaurants which serve halal meat. Some restaurants are only for those who are Club Intercontinental members or are staying at the hotel, however other restaurants seem to be open to the public for reservations. Some restaurants are only open seasonally so please read the halal status comment on the restaurant page or check with the hotel before visiting. Below are a few restaurants at The Intercontinental:
