One thing I love about going to cafés for breakfast is that they tend to be family-run with the owner usually around to have a chat.
This was the case at TOMF in between Paddington and Edgware Road stations (TOMF stands for ‘Taste of Modern Food’ as we learnt after a chat with the Iraqi owner). TOMF has been recently renovated and although a little difficult to find via Google Maps, it turned out to be a cute café serving breakfast and mediterranean, healthy lunches.
On the plate: Two fried eggs, turkey bacon, two chicken sausages, half a grilled tomato, sautéed mushrooms, baked beans, two hash browns and one slice of brown toast. The breakfast comes with a choice of a hot drink (£8.00).
I liked that the café allowed you to choose how you want your eggs. I always assume eggs in an English breakfast come fried (which is what I like) but at TOMF you can have them any way you like. The turkey rashers had been cut into thin slices which we thought was great because turkey can be a bit tough to cut sometimes. The chicken sausages were different to ones we’ve had in any other café but I didn’t like them. It seems I just don’t like chicken sausages! The café had a very welcoming, homely feel to it and the owner was a lovely person to chat to. He even gave us a discount on our food!
At £8.00 this full English breakfast was on the more expensive side of full English breakfasts we’ve had. However, seeing as though I was able to order a cappuccino as my hot drink which is priced at £2.00 on the menu, the breakfast was actually good value for money.
