What does South London have to offer foodies in the morning? Given Zohra and I work north of the river, we rarely get the chance to try out restaurants in South London, let alone halal breakfast spots. We made a decision to go on a bit of a breakfast crawl recently and when the day came to tackle South London, we grabbed our Oyster cards and checked out two of the most popular halal breakfast spots south of the river. First stop: Coffee Max on Upper Tooting Road.
On the plate: two chicken sausages, two turkey rashers, one fried egg, mushrooms, beans, tomato, one slice of toast (£6.99)
At £6.99, the breakfast was good value for money. While the turkey rashers didn’t have a particular flavour to them, the chicken sausages were nicely spiced. Zohra said they reminded her of the sausages she used to have at school (I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing). The beans were really good with some herbs mixed into them. Unfortunately the fried egg looked a little sad because it had not been fried very well. With no hash browns on the plate, this breakfast wasn’t as carb-heavy as other full English breakfasts we have had. We both liked the turkey rashers and sausages which was rare given our taste differs. Though the food was good, the service wasn’t the best. Nonetheless, we’d recommend Coffee Max to all of you South London folk as a great spot for a breakfast that is fully halal and good value for money.
Breakfast is served until 5pm every day.
