Hours: 12 hours a week

Rate: £13 / hour 

Location: Currently fully remote

Term: 6-month temporary contract with a 2-month probation

Halal Gems is one of the leading platforms curating for halal diners in the UK. We help our community find places to eat, places to go and things to do. We also run one of London’s biggest street food festivals Street Eats, which has seen over 170,000 attendees over the last 4 years.

Halal Gems is a part of Amaliah. Amaliah is a media company dedicated to amplifying the voices of Muslim women and have been established for 5 years. We have a digital footprint of over 4.2 million each month. Through articles, videos, our award-winning podcasts, our social channels, events, brand partnerships, our work seeks to surface the many different voices and experiences within our communities.


Halal Gems social media is dedicated to helping our audience find places to eat, places to go and things to do. This role involves researching, planning and creating social media content, and elements of community management. The ideal candidate will have some experience across research, social media marketing, branding, copywriting, photography, videography and graphic design.

The work you deliver will aim to elevate the experience our community has with our social channels.

From time to time there may be external client work where you will have the opportunity to work with us from ideation through to delivery.


You’re passionate about food, you’re someone who is always looking for meaningful ways to spend your time and keeping up to date with what is going on in the world of food, travel and entertainment. You’re that friend that is always planning what to do, where to go and what to eat. You also understand social media incredibly well, keep up to date with how to best engage with audiences and are keen to develop content formats that drive the mission of Halal Gems. You love hearing about new ideas, and you’re organised in your approach to work.


The successful candidate will help create and deliver a compelling organic social content strategy with a focus on Instagram and Twitter. 


  • Researching, curating and scheduling our Instagram and Twitter feed each week
  • Developing new content series on Halal Gems Instagram 
  • Ideate, design and post on Instagram stories each week to share our editorial and podcast content
  • Utilising Instagram Stories to drive engagement and value to our followers
  • Contribute to building an online community and engaging our followers 


  • Suggest new formats and social-first content ideas that you are able to execute 
  • Checking and responding to DMs in a timely manner where appropriate


  • Social media report with suggestions on improvements


About You:

Design ability with high attention to detail You have an eye for design and are able to create social media assets. Whilst turn around may be fast on some tasks, attention to detail is vital to maintain a high standard of work.

  • An impeccable eye for good design, branding, social media content and marketing
  • Project management and organisation skills

Great at communication

  • Be able to write compelling copy for social channels
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

Social First 

  • You’ve got experience of generating engaging social media content, Ideally, 1-2 years of experience in social media, content creation in an agency, for a brand or for your own channels
  • You know how to read the room on tone and delivery on socials 
  • You are able to use social listening to inform strategic planning

Execute on ideas You are an ideas person that also knows how to execute. You appreciate that rolling up your sleeves is part and parcel of making creative ideas happen. We value executing ideas on time and occasionally work with clients that require timely execution. 

  • You can already see things you would change or bring in to improve Halal Gems’ social media
  • You have a bias for action and a willingness to experiment

Creative You can work creatively with little resources You have a proven track record of creativity in your portfolio. Your job is to come up with ideas and execute on them.

  • Can work to our fluid design style
  • Highly creative: full of ideas and with a ‘think-outside-the-box’ approach to idea generation

Community You have your ear to the ground. You understand our audience and the community we speak to. You understand the power that content has in being able to build a community. 

  • You engage online with community spaces, perhaps run your own grassroots platform/space or are passionate about specific communities
  • You use social media and understand our audience well on it, you keep up to date with our audience interests, Twitter and Instagram and perhaps Tik Tok (but not essential)
  • You’re constantly trying to learn more about our community and audience
  • You can build and maintain good relationships with a wide variety of people
  • You care about inclusion, you respect the diversity of our audience and care about always trying to ensure the whole community is seen 
  • You have a pulse on culture and are constantly curious about trending conversations in social

Numbers You care about stats and use data to inform some of your decisions and the performance of your ideas. You are aware of how social media engagement works and are mindful of creating meaningful content to inform and at times mobilise the community.

  • Experience using data and metrics to measure impact and determine improvements
  • You’re comfortable with analytics and always look to these to enhance content performance and use it to learn and improve.
